I enjoy darn near everything about this grill. The size is perfect for my RV; cooking for two. The construction is solid. I easily added a 3/8” quick connect fitting which allows me to connect to my RV. Clean-up is a breeze as the lower bottom slide out catch tray is great. It is all stainless steel. Stellar design with one major flaw ... it runs too hot.
The one thing that knocks this from 5 star to a 3 is that it runs so incredibly hot. It seems that if it had a better set of heat control knobs that provide more control of the flame/heat, this would be a significantly positive change to easily warrant a 5-star rating.
I have found I can get a slightly better cook by deploying an indirect cooking approach using only half the grill with one burner on and cooking on the other side that is off. However, this approach limits cooking surface to only half the grill and doesn’t always do the best job. I’ve also tried cooking for a bit, shutting it off to cool down, then resuming cooking. While this worked okay, it significantly increased cooking time and meat lost juices.
I had some custom grill grates made (~$120) which work well but still too darned hot to cook anything without drying out due to high heat.
Note that the excessive heat problem occurs with the stock hose and regulator hooked up to a standard 20lb propane tank as well as when hooked to my rv using it’s built in regulator without the stock hose/regulator. Perhaps I could try double regulator to slow the propane flow?
I want so badly to give this 5-stars but the excessive heat makes it near unusable. Looking for other options.
